Course outline

1. Course Description

With the current banking crisis in India, study of Commercial banks has become most interesting and exciting. Moreover, banking being the wheel of financial system as a whole, the banking sector plays an important role in the growth and progress of each economy. Keeping in view, the interconnectedness of the financial system segments and the complementarity of financial entities in changing world, the Commercial Banking course is a comprehensive study of commercial banks and their pivotal role in the financial world. The course emphasizes the practical application of business and economic principles as they relate to bank management and regulatory policy. The material is presented from the perspective of both bank management, and regulator in order to provide an overview of the interrelated operations of a banking organization. To enhance the participant’s appreciation for the complex issues that senior bank management faces this course traverses through finer layers so as to enable the participants to make informed decisions relating to the Banking Sector in India in the context of rapid changes of Business and financial ecosystem.

5. Evaluation

The minimum pass mark is 30%.

Group assignment will involve answering a question/ critical analysis of issues. It will be evaluated on the basis of group presentation made. In addition to the presentation, the students need to submit a 10 page report in support of their presentation. The quiz will be of MCQ type with negative marks and end-term would test the conceptual clarity and understanding of the subject and will cover the entire course.

6. Academic Integrity

· Academic Integrity will be adhered as per the norms and policy given by the Institute. In case of group assignment, all members of the group should contribute to the preparation of the report and you are expected to write down the report without plagiarism.

· Cell phone will be seized if it rings in the class and will be handed over to the Dean’s office. The concerned student may be asked to leave the class by the faculty. The same is for the use of laptop inside the class without permission of the faculty.

No interchange of section attendance is permissible. Say for example one is allotted to sec-x, and then he cannot ask for attending in Section-y and vice versa.
