Course Description:

Often it seems that employees are working harder and harder, yet the company is still losing ground. Even if a rock-solid strategy has been formulated the firm cannot get ahead. Even if the company monitors the market, responds to competitors’ moves, but the results are still lukewarm! This necessitates construction of a solid foundation for business execution – an IT infrastructure and digitized business processes that that automates the company’s core capabilities. “Enterprise Architecture” is the foundation and major underpinning of IT and Organizational Planning. And the key to executing the business strategy in a successfully is “choosing the right enterprise architecture!” Establishing the right architecture has helped some of the world’s most successful companies, not just survive but thrive despite tough global competition. Their IT systems have become an asset rather than a liability and have fostered unprecedented responsiveness and agility.

Given the above, this course will discuss 2 major Enterprise Architecture frameworks. First, the

MIT Sloan framework

will be discussed which provides a thorough grounding on Enterprise Architecture concepts such as the various operating models and their characteristics. The primary focus is on choosing the right operating model for well-planned growth and diversification of enterprises. Then, we will discuss a major industry recognized Enterprise Architecture standard:

The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)

. This Open Group standard has over 220 fortune 500 members. TOGAF 9.2 is a proven Enterprise Architecture methodology and framework used by the world's leading organizations to improve business efficiency. This is a generic framework for developing architectures to meet different business needs.

TOGAF offers certifications

and TOGAF certified Enterprise Architects are in big demand in industry. These frameworks provide pragmatic and clear approaches for better management of the IT function and achieving alignment with business through some selected timeless concepts and articles. None of the approaches requires extensive investments. Rather, these are the specific guidelines and methods which need to be employed to reap the benefits.

Identify critical factors for alignment of IT and the business
